What is on this page
Every maze here is a full A4 page with one puzzle on it, and every one carries its answer sheet as the last page of the same PDF. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing is watermarked. The sizes run from a 10 by 13 grid that a four year old can finish, up to 34 by 45, which will hold an adult's attention for a while.
How to pick a size
The four sizes are real differences in the board, not labels on the same puzzle:
- Easy, 10 by 13. Wide corridors and a short route. This is the size for preschool and reception, where the goal is keeping a pencil between two lines rather than solving anything.
- Medium, 17 by 22. The first size that genuinely needs a plan. Works from about six or seven upward.
- Hard, 26 by 34. Dense enough that guessing stops working and you start reading ahead. Older children and adults.
- Expert, 34 by 45. The largest grid this site prints on a single sheet. The route runs several hundred steps.
Each card tells you the exact grid, how many steps the correct route takes and how many dead ends are waiting, so you can judge a sheet before you spend the ink.
Every maze has exactly one route
These are not drawn by hand and they are not scanned from a book. The site generates each one and then checks it, which is the advantage of doing it this way: a computer can prove something a person would have to trust. Every maze on this page is what is called a perfect maze, meaning any two points in it are connected by exactly one path. There are no loops, no shortcuts and no second way through. The answer sheet is therefore the answer, not one of several.
The dead ends are the whole game. An expert sheet carries a few hundred of them, and the count on each card is measured from that specific board rather than estimated.
Printing them so they look like they do here
One setting matters more than all the others: set scaling to 100 percent or "actual size", not "fit to page". Print dialogs default to shrinking the page a few percent to clear the printer's unprintable border, and on a maze that turns clean walls into fuzzy grey. Every sheet here is already drawn with a 15mm margin so nothing needs shrinking, and that same margin is why an A4 file prints on US Letter without cropping.
Black and white at draft quality is fine. The walls are drawn heavy on purpose so they survive a cheap print, and there is no colour on the page to lose.
The answer sheets
The solution is the last page of the same PDF, so there is nothing extra to find: print everything except the final page for a child, and keep one full copy for yourself. For a class set, the same trick prints the puzzle in bulk with a single answer copy for the teacher.
Finding the same maze again
Each description ends with a puzzle number. That number is what the generator used to build the board, so it identifies that exact maze permanently. If a particular sheet works well with a group, note the number. You can also make your own at any size with the Maze Maker, which uses the same engine and the same numbering.
How to use these sheets
- Pick a sheet and press Print. The file is a PDF sized for A4 and Letter paper.
- Print it in black and white at normal quality. None of these sheets need colour ink except the colour by number pages.
- Keep the answer page for yourself, or print it too if you want to check the work later.
Common questions
Are these mazes really free, even for a whole class set?
Yes. Every maze on this page is a free PDF, and printing a full class set is fine: personal use and classroom use are both explicitly allowed. What the license rules out is selling the sheets, re-uploading the files elsewhere or claiming them as your own. The details are on the licensing page.
What paper do the maze PDFs print on?
Each file is laid out as a real A4 page, with margins wide enough that US Letter printers do not clip it either. Black and white at normal quality is all they need. If a maze comes out grey or shrunk, the how to print guide covers the settings that fix it.
Do all the mazes come with a solution?
Yes. Every maze is generated with exactly one route from the entrance to the exit, and that is checked automatically before the sheet is published. The solution is the last page of every maze PDF, so print all pages but the last to hand out, and keep one full copy for yourself.
Which mazes should a young child start with?
Start with the easy mazes: wider corridors, smaller grids and short routes, so finishing one takes minutes rather than a whole sitting. When those stop being a challenge, the mixed sheets on this page step up gradually and the hard mazes will keep older children and adults busy.
