Circle mazes

30 round mazes built on rings and spokes, which changes how getting lost feels: corridors curve, and a wrong turn can walk you most of the way around the board before it ends. The ring count is the difficulty, and it is printed on every card.

Starters: 6 ring mazes

Seven boards of around 150 cells. The rings are deep and the forks are few, which makes these the right first circular maze for a child who already knows the square kind.

What changes when the maze is round

A circular maze is not a square maze bent into a ring; getting lost works differently. Corridors curve, so your sense of which way you are facing erodes as you go, and a wrong turn in an outer ring can walk you most of the way around the board before it closes. The boards here are built from concentric rings and radial spokes, with the rings splitting into more cells as they grow outward so every cell stays roughly the same printed size.

The difficulty is the ring count, and it is printed on every card along with the measured cell count, route length and dead ends: 6 ring starters, the 10 ring classic size, 14 ring deep boards and the 18 ring giant, whose nearly 1,200 cells put it in the same league as the extreme rectangular tier.

Rim to centre, or centre to rim

Half of these mazes are solved inward: you enter through a gap in the outer rim and work to the marked centre. The other half run outward: you start at the centre dot and escape through the rim. The direction is stated on every sheet and marked on the board itself, with the goal in colour. An escape maze plays differently from a treasure hunt maze, even on the same construction, because the forks multiply in the direction of travel when you head outward.

Who these suit

The 6 ring starters work for any child who is already comfortable with the easy square mazes: the novelty carries the first ones. From 10 rings up they are honest general-audience puzzles, and the 14 and 18 ring boards will occupy an adult properly. For very small children the square preschool mazes remain the better start; curves are harder to trace than corners.

Printing and solutions

Same rules as everywhere on this site: free PDFs with the solution as the last page of each file and the route drawn in colour, true A4 pages with margins that survive US Letter printers, and print at 100 percent or actual size. The catalogue number under each board finds that exact maze again whenever you want a rematch.

How to use these sheets

  1. Pick a sheet and press Print. The file is a PDF sized for A4 and Letter paper.
  2. Print it in black and white at normal quality. None of these sheets need colour ink except the colour by number pages.
  3. Keep the answer page for yourself, or print it too if you want to check the work later.
